community read (Our version of a book club)

NOTE: Book club meetings are at 4-5 pm PST/7-8 pm EST

We are thrilled to announce our inaugural Community Read, which we anticipate will occur twice a year and provide us the opportunity to gather around art and culture that touches on traffic violence. For our first “Read” we will discuss A Death in the Family by James Agee. Published in 1957, this autobiographical novel chronicles the crash that killed the author’s father and its searing impact. This year marks the 65th anniversary of its Pulitzer win.

Agee was six when his father died in 1915. He describes a devastation we know too well. The crash takes the life of a beloved parent, husband, and son, and destroys the contentment of a young family. The language is by turns tender and tough, but always precise.

We will meet on Zoom on four consecutive Mondays in October, in addition to providing a platform for discussion online.

Open to all community members. Facilitated by Aly Geller, Support Services Manager; Judith Kottick, Support Lead and FSS Founding Member; Rebecca Sonkin, Literary Lead and FSS Community Member.

We will meet weekly over the course of 4 weeks. Sign up here to participate.
